Marietta High Air Force JROTC Named 'Powerhouse' Unit

Marietta High School Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) Unit GA-20021 Cadet Juanita Londono recently earned the Distinguished Cadet Award, the highest award presented at the Summer Leadership School at Converse College.

Marietta High School Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) Unit GA-20021 cadets captured 15 awards at the 2013 Summer Leadership School at Converse College. Of the 28 MHS cadets attending, 12 received top awards.

Cadet Juanita Londono earned the Distinguished Cadet Award, the highest award presented at the Summer Leadership School.

“The cadets from Marietta High School have proven themselves to be a Powerhouse here at the Converse College Summer Leadership School,” said Colonel James Dowis, Converse College ROTC Commandant.

“MHS cadets competed against 279 cadets representing 24 schools from North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia,” said Lt. Col. James T. Wilson, MHS Senior Aerospace Science Instructor.  “The performance by our JROTC cadets was outstanding.”

  • Camp Female Cadet Physical Fitness Award: Cadet Juanita Londono
  • Camp Male Cadet Physical Fitness Award: Cadet William Turner
  • Best In Personal Inspection Award: Cadet Juanita Londono
  • Outstanding Evaluator: Cadet Charles Settlemeyer
  • Outstanding Operations Cadet: Cadet Colton Atkinson
  • Outstanding Group Commander: Cadet Ashlie Hayden
  • Outstanding Squadron Commander: Cadet Harry McMahon
  • Outstanding Flight Cadre Awards: Cadet Chandler Lippold, Cadet Maria Garcia and Cadet Breda Khalil
  • Honor Graduates: Cadet Justin Young, Cadet Francis Chaist and Cadet William Turner

“To earn honor graduate status, a cadet must rank in the top ten percent of all the cadets at the leadership school,” said Lt. Col. Wilson.
