Bites Nearby: Pacific Sushi Buffet and Grill

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy every week; we find great restaurants for you. This week: Pacific Sushi Buffet And Grill

Overview: I was going to Barnacles Restaurant near Town Center, and I was disappointed at first that it had been replaced by a new restaurant, Pacific Sushi Buffet and Grill. I decided to go ahead and try it. Thinking it was going to be like all the other Asian buffets I’ve tried, I was surprised at how beautiful this restaurant was inside.

Décor is elegant, the place is huge and laid out in an interesting way. Once inside, soft lighting and graceful waterfalls greet you on both sides as you walk over a  bamboo bridge to the main restaurant. In fact, it’s the largest Asian buffet I’ve seen.

Even the lighting is done in a way that flatters the buffets and creates a feeling of privacy in the dining rooms. This restaurant looks more like fine dining than casual buffet, but it’s only $9.99 all-you-can-eat for dinner and $6.99 for lunch.

The Food: Pacific Sushi Buffet and Grill is in a completely different league from other Asian buffets. There is an amazing number of dishes and food choices at this restaurant. There are six buffet bars as well as a hibachi grill for fresh made-to-order dishes. One side, steak, ham, roast pork, mac and cheese and other Western foods are offered.

Another has the traditional Chinese dishes such as Mongolian beef, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sea Bass and Lo Mein.  Seafood lovers may choose from a “Forest Gump” variety of  shrimp: cold boiled, fried, sautéed and coconut shrimp, crabs, crawfish, oysters on the half-shell, steamed mussels, blue crab and crab claws. There’s a made-to-order hibachi grill.

The sushi bar is large and offers an assortment of sushi and sashimi. (Any sushi lover in his right mind needs to check this out). Another buffet line has fresh watermelon, pineapple, salads and cold boiled shrimp. A word of advice: Before you eat, look at all buffets and see what’s there. I filled up before I saw the steaks, hibachi and other savory choices.

Desserts: For once, there are edible desserts instead of the ones you normally see that look dainty--and taste like cardboard. There’s also a variety of ice cream to choose from.

Drinks: Specialty wines and beer offered.
