Bites Nearby: Romano's Macaroni Grill in West Cobb

Sometimes the most tedious part of dining out is figuring where to dine out. Patch makes it easy every Thursday; we find great restaurants for you. This week: Romano's Macaroni Grill.

Overview: At Saturday’s Taste of West Cobb, (located at The Avenue West Cobb) served up a delectable dish called Pasta Milano. It consisted of roasted chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh mushrooms and imported farfalle pasta in a roasted garlic cream sauce. The reason I mention this at the beginning of this article is simple: I am so hooked on some of their other dishes, I would never even have tried it if it hadn’t been offered for three tickets! You see, my 15-year-old son and I are Romano Macaroni Grill die-hards. It is the place we go to for important talks, birthdays and for me to learn the game of football (he draws game-plays on the brown paper tablecloths.) We love the big booths, soft lighting and consistently good service. The food is scrumptious-all of it-and in hearty portions. If you are a wine lover, you will appreciate the fact that along with an extensive wine list, there are the chef’s recommended wines for most dishes, even appetizers, ensuring the best possible culinary experience.

The Food: Warm loaves of bread are automatically served and saucers of olive oil with Italian seasonings are used for dipping. While the traditional Italian dishes are superb (lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, fire-roasted pizzas, etc.), other dishes  make us crave this restaurant. Try the following menu items-they are ones that keep us coming back:

Crab-Stuffed Mushrooms (Appetizer) - Fresh mushrooms filled with lump crabmeat, shrimp and Italian seasonings $8.99

Insalata Blu - Fresh greens with crumbled bleu cheese, toasted walnuts, red onions and balsamic vinaigrette. $6.99

Penne Rustica® (My favorite dish)-Succulent shrimp, roasted chicken and aged prosciutto tossed with Parmesan cream sauce then baked until golden $12.99

Center-Cut Lamb Spiedini - It's difficult to find any lamb, much less great lamb on a restaurant menu. This selection is tender lamb loin seasoned with fresh rosemary and garlic olive oil. Grilled on skewers with fresh rosemary and served with colorful roasted vegetables $16.99

Crusted Sole- Filet of sole pan-seared with a delicate crust and topped with lemon butter. Served with sun-dried tomato and spinach orzo $14.99

The Desserts: This restaurant really “gets” it when it comes to desserts. Knowing you are probably going be stuffed after dinner, they offer light, inexpensive desserts priced from $1.99 to $3.99. My favorite is Simple Lemon Pound Cake - delicate slices of lemon pound cake garnished with fresh strawberries at $1.99.  For those wanting something more rich, the Ricotta Cheesecake at $2.99 is a great choice.

The Drinks: Romano’s Macaroni Grill has a full bar and a  new all-day “Happy Hour” featuring $5 pizzas, $5 crafted cocktails and $3 house wine and draft beer.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday

Romano’s Macaroni Grill, 3625 Dallas Highway, 678-581-5624
