Blaze Recycling, ABC Recycling Employees Cited for Receiving Regulated Metals

During a three-month investigation headed up by Senior Detective Russell Henson, numerous undercover Marietta Police officers attempted to sell regulated metals to , ABC Recycling and .

Three employees of Blaze Recycling and one employee of ABC Recycling failed to properly document transactions of regulated materials by not obtaining customer and vehicle information as required by law.

All involved employees were given a citation for Records of Transactions Violations and released on a copy of the citation.

In July of 2011, the spearheaded a region wide task force to combat metal thefts known as the Copperhead Metal Task Force.

Since the inception of the task force, metal thefts in the area have diminished greatly and a number of metal thieves have been brought to justice, Marietta Police said.

However, arresting metal thieves is only half of the equation. It is paramount that metal recycling companies do their part to deter metal thefts by staying in compliance with regulations, Police explained.

The Marietta Police Department will continue to monitor and educate recycling companies to ensure compliance and awareness of the law.

Chief Dan Flynn commented that, like others, our community is fed up with metal thefts and those who encourage them. "While we recognize that not all metal recyclers are dishonest; we are going to continue to monitor and aggressively pursue the dishonest to the full extent of the law."
