Marietta Businesses Recognized for Community Service

The Sam Olens Business Community Service Award winner is Balfour Beatty Construction for their active role in the Cobb community and volunteer efforts with SafePath.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce recognized 11 businesses, including Marietta's Cobb EMC, Comcast, SA White/Mobilized Fuels, Star-Tech and Zenith Design Group, for their community service contributions at its first Monday breakfast at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest.

The annual Cobb Chamber/Georgia Trend Magazine Business Community Service Awards recognize deserving Cobb businesses for their service to the community through support of not-for-profit organizations.

  • Balfour Beatty Construction, nominated by SafePath Children’s Advocacy Center, Inc.;
  • Digital Insurance, nominated by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta;
  • Elite Telecom Services, nominated by American Cancer Society;
  • General Electric, nominated by Communities in Schools of Marietta/Cobb County, Inc.;
  • Printpack, Inc., nominated by The Center for Children & Young Adults; and
  • Vulcan Materials Company, nominated by Kennesaw Police—Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The 2011 Business Community Service Awards feature several changes since last year’s program, including the addition of an overall winner from the nominees.

The overall winner will receive the Sam Olens Business Community Service Award, named for the Cobb native and Georgia Attorney General.

“Sam Olens has been instrumental in countless organizations and many initiatives throughout our county,” said Rob Garcia, chairman of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. “The impact he has made on our community will continue to leave a great legacy for years to come.”
