I was looking for somewhere to eat in and thought I had found a really cool place - until I realized they didn't have anything vegetarian on the menu and couldn't do anything to accomodate my dietary restriction.
Since I was hungry and it was lunch time, my husband and I decided to try out because, well, it was close. And, it had a really cool name. Let me tell you, it was the best mistake I have ever made. We live in Cartersville, but we've already said we will make the drive to Marietta to eat here again. And again. It was that good.
Service: We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who took us right to a table, which I was pleasantly surprised by since it was high noon.
Our server was fantastic. She came by the table just the right number of times - not too often to be annoying but not too infrequently so that we were left wondering where she was. She also put up with my bevy of questions because I am probably the world's most picky eater. And, she did so with a smile on her face. If she didn't know the answer, she went straight to the kitchen and came back moments later with a response.
When we left, a host held the door open for us and invited us to come back.

Ambiance: What I loved about this restaurant is that it's the perfect mix of upscale dining and being down home on the farm. Booths line the walls of the main dining room. In the middle are long, family-style tables with wicker chairs, and between those and the booths are smaller tables made out of dark wood. The bar area is located when you first enter the restaurant.
The decor gives you the feel of being on a farm. There are windows with faded wooden shutters and prints of roosters on the walls.
The servers' uniforms also give you the feel of being on a farm with their blue jeans, long-sleeved blue shirts and long green aprons. They mixed the two genres very well.
Food: Our meal started with complimentary biscuits served with a molasses butter. The biscuits were very light and probably the best I've ever had, and the molasses butter was a pleasant change from regular butter. It had a nice sweetness that complimented the biscuits well.
I had a sandwich called the Plant. I love that name for a veggie sandwich. It had grilled mesquite portabella, zucchini, eggplant, balsamic dressed greens, roasted red pepper and pesto aioli on focaccia, and boy, was it good. I told my husband it was probably one of the best veggie sandwiches I've ever had. The bread is made in-house, and it was delicious. I had fries as my side, and they were perfectly crisp and salted. And, the food was so filling that I didn't even finish half my sandwich and some of the fries. That just means I have another meal now!
My husband had the small fried Carolina catfish plate with hush puppies and green beans. The fried catfish will delight any seafood lover, but the real stars were the hush puppies. Diners will be cutting them open to figure out all the flavors packed inside. Diners from the South will appreciate the green beans cooked with onions that round out the dish.
Dessert: We don't usually get dessert when we go out to eat, but the chocolate cream pie caught our eye and, despite being full from our meals, we had to get a slice. I am so glad we did. It was the lightest pie I've ever eaten. It just melted in my mouth.
Bottom line: While Chicken and the Egg has prices a little higher than I typically like to spend, the food and service are definitely worth the money. This is definitely a restaurant to check out. Like I said before, we plan to make the trip from Cartersville to dine there again.
