Museum Spotlight: Gone with the Wind

Take a closer look at the Marietta Gone with the Wind Museum, its collection, upcoming events, its impact on Marietta Square and more.

The has been a part of the Square since 2003 when it opened in the historic Old Thomas Warehouse Building. The museum has about 10,000 visitors a year.

The museum has an extensive collection provided by Dr. Christopher Sullivan, which is divided into three tiers. The first tier focuses on author Margaret Mitchell and the book. The second tier focuses on the film and the actors. The third tier takes a look at the marketing of Gone with the Wind.

The museum features original scripts, the original Bengaline honeymoon gown worn by Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O'Hara in the film, some of author Margaret Mitchell's personal volumes of the novel, rare press items and publicity books, costume pieces, contracts, foreign film posters, premiere programs, conceptual artworks, advertisements, a Lego reproduction of Tara, Clark Gable's cufflinks, photos and more.

The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum will present Belles, Beaus and Barbecue: A Gone With the Wind Celebration on May 25 and May 26. Check back for more information on the event as well as coverage from the event.
