WellStar Kennestone Hospital Receives “3 Star” Quality Rating

In the current analysis of national data covering the period from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013, the CAB cardiac surgery performance at WellStar Kennestone Hospital was within the top tier.

WellStar Health System has received a “3 Star” rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS).

STS has developed a comprehensive rating system for the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals. Approximately 13.4 percent of hospitals across the country received the Coronary Artery Bypass (CAB) “3 Star” rating, which denotes the highest category of quality for clinical excellence based on National Quality Forum (NQF) standards.

In the current analysis of national data covering the period from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013, the CAB cardiac surgery performance at WellStar Kennestone Hospital was within the top tier thereby earning the STS - “3 Star” Rating.

“This recognition validates the hard work and commitment to excellence of our staff, physicians, administration, Board of Trustees and the WellStar community.” said Dr. William Cooper, director of cardiac surgery for WellStar Health System.

“Delivering top quality cardiovascular care has been our primary focus since inception of cardiac surgery in December of 2004. Quality, the culmination of appropriate, safe, efficient, timely and equitable cardiac care, has been and will remain our number one priority.” 

The cardiac surgery program is housed at WellStar Kennestone. Additionally, Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone and Paulding hospitals are all accredited chest pain centers. The System has a total of 9 labs for cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
