WellStar Named One of NAFE's Top Nonprofits

Women hold 38 percent of the executive positions at the NAFE Top Nonprofit Companies.

has been named to the NAFE Top 50 Companies and 10 Nonprofits for Executive Women by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE).

The list recognizes organizations whose policies and practices encourage women’s advancement and whose numbers at the highest levels of leadership demonstrate that commitment.

“WellStar supports women’s advancement in leadership and we are proud to be recognized for doing so,” said David Anderson, executive vice president, human resources/organizational learning and chief compliance officer for WellStar Health System, in a press release.

A newly released report revealed that women hold 38 percent of the executive positions at the NAFE Top Nonprofit Companies. The new report, conducted by the Working Mother Research Institute, also finds that women hold 27 percent of all board of director seats at the NAFE Top Nonprofit Companies, compared with 16 percent across the Fortune 500. The NAFE Top Nonprofit Companies lead corporate America in recruiting, retaining and advancing women. 

WellStar has created a culture which advances and supports women at every level, providing support to nurture success. As a result, women at WellStar comprise 82 percent of the 12,000 plus workforce. Women make up 75 percent of the top 20 percent earners, and they hold 47 percent of profit and loss positions. These women lead business units and have direct responsibility for profit and loss.

WellStar has been recognized nationally by Working Mother, The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, AARP, Companies That Care and locally by several other organizations tracking pacesetters and best practices. This is the third time that WellStar has been named a NAFE Top Company.

The 2012 NAFE Top Companies application includes more than 250 questions on topics including female representation, hiring, attrition and promotion rates, access and usage of key retention and advancement programs.

The application draws particular attention to the number of women at the highest ranks and those with profit-and-loss responsibility. To be considered, companies must have a minimum of two women on their boards of directors as well as at least 500 employees in the U.S.
