Atlanta REALTOR® Bruce Ailion, an agent with RE/MAX Greater Atlanta, will join 8,500 Realtors and guests, including 170 from Georgia, for the REALTOR® Party Convention & Trade Expo in Washington D.C. from May 12-17. Ailion will advocate for policies that protect and advance investment in residential and commercial property and private property rights.

During the legislative and regulatory meetings, Ailion will attend information sessions about the top issues affecting the industry, businesses, and clients. He will also meet directly with legislators, congressional and regulatory staff, and top industry executives who are working to provide real solutions.  The meeting will focus on critical real estate issues such as preserving the mission and accessibility of the Federal Housing Administration and Veterans Affairs home loan programs protecting real estate tax policies including the mortgage interest deduction, and reforming the secondary mortgage market.

Ailion understands the importance the REALTOR organization plays in advocating the protection and preservation of the private property rights and the critical role public advocacy plays in shaping government policy as it relates to real estate markets.

“For the 26% of tax payers who benefit from the mortgage interest deduction, or the millions of people who have benefited from FHA or VA loans, it would be hard to envision a future where these long time benefits are gone,” notes Ailion.

Recently REALTORS were critical in extending legislation that extended Federal Flood Insurance, saving many homeowners from premiums to increase by 200 to 400 percent.  At the state level in Georgia, REALTORS were successful in advocating for funding of a copper sales registry, which will assist in the prosecution of copper theft.
