Cobb EMC reduces rates

Cobb EMC today announced a rate reduction for standard residential and small commercial rates, effective January 1. The cooperative’s board of directors also approved resetting its Wholesale Power Adjustment (WPA) to zero, a $1 increase in the monthly service charge, but decreased energy charges by three mils, resulting in an overall savings to most members. On average, the typical Cobb EMC residential member will save roughly $1 each month on electric service with these changes.

“While other utilities are looking to raise rates, Cobb EMC’s looking for ways to lower them,” said Cobb EMC board chairman David Tennant. “We’re dedicated to controlling costs and making real changes that save our members money.”

This marks the third rate reduction for Cobb EMC within the past year. Rates were lowered in January and July of 2013. Prior to the January 2014 decrease, the last Georgia Public Service Commission survey ranked the cooperative sixth out of the state’s 41 EMCs, in terms of total cost at the 1000 kWh usage level.
