Arts, Exhibits and Movies Around the Square

It's Friday in Marietta, so do not be surprised when arts, a photography exhibit and a movie at the Strand top The 5 Things.

1. It's the first Friday of June, thus the first Friday of a month, so that means that Marietta's First Friday Art Walk is on the calendar. From 5 to 9 p.m., local artists will present and sell their work in conjunction with Marietta Square merchants. Also check out a juried exhibition within and enjoy free shuttle service from the .

2. Since you are already at the Square, consider dropping by the for The Road Trip: Exploration, Uncertainty, Freedom. This interactive exhibition from local photographer Justin Hadley begins with his own road trip stories and photographs and evolves as visitors share their own tales and have portraits taken.

3. As usual, the has quite a bit going on for a Friday. For music, consider the Brew with a View on the rooftop terrace from 5 to 9 p.m. For a movie, the theater is showing Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood at 8 p.m. Live organ pops variety show and sing-along featuring The Strand’s Mighty Allen Theatre Organ begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children, students, and seniors.

4. For the female tennis fanatic, consider the Friday morning tennis league at from 9 a.m. to noon. The event is free and includes free tennis drills, balls, food and court time. Call the tennis center at 770-656-3280 for details or visit www.tennisdynamics.net.

5. Today is National Doughnut Day, which is held on the first Friday of June each year and continues an event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
