Bus Drivers, New Jobs, Library Party

Here are 5 things you need to know in Marietta for Aug. 11.

2. are in need of 30 new bus drivers for the new school year, which begins Monday, due to an increase in students choosing to attend out-of-zone schools. Applicants for the bus driver positions must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED and hold a valid Georgia Commercial Driver's License with S and P endorsements. Interested applicants can find the complete job requirements and apply online at http://www.cobbk12.org/centraloffice/hr/employment.

3. Stay tuned for a big announcement concerning a new bioscience company coming to Marietta. Today Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal is traveling to our city and is expected to announce that a global pharmaceutical company plans to open operations here, where it could create nearly 160 jobs. The announcement will be made on Sawyer Road at the building which formerly housed Solvay Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

4. Families are invited to enjoy the Summer Reading Program celebration from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the . The party will include games, crafts and entertainment. The Central Library is located at 266 Roswell St., Marietta. For more information, call 770-528-2330.

5. Need some motivation to finish your summer reading? How about this -- If you read 30-60 minutes each day, this will add up to about one book per week. The average person reads less than one book per year. If you read one book per week, this will add up to about 50 books each year. To earn a Ph.D. from a major university requires the reading and synthesis into a dissertation of about 40 to 50 books.
