Cheers to Taste of Marietta!

City pulls off another great culinary event, which tops today's The 5 Things.

1. Congratulations to all of the sponsors of the 2011 Taste of Marietta. What an amazing event, even though the now-vacationing editor of Marietta Patch and his belle got nasty sunburns because they didn't think about using sunscreen on the first day of May. Cannot wait to get the official attendance tally and see if more folks attended this year than all years previous.

In the meantime, make sure you upload your photos to our growing gallery from the Taste of Marietta.

2. And also consider lending your voice to our upcoming Local Voices feature. Feel free to email phil.taylor@patch.com or our guest editor Holly Roberson at holly.roberson@patch.com. We want to hear from you!

3. The Atlanta chapter of Women of Distinction recently announced that it would honor Daneea Badio, the city's Weed and Seed coordinator, with its 2011 Women of Distinction Community Service Award for her continuous and outstanding contributions to Georgia.

With Weed and Seed, Badio coordinates city efforts to revitalize communities suffering from social decay and crime. She has also been director of emergency services for Travelers Aid of Metropolitan Atlanta. Badio and her mother started Single Parent Connection Inc., a nonprofit group that provides workshops for single parents.

Badio also won the TLC reality series The Messenger  in 2006 as America's next great motivational speaker. She earned a publishing deal and a chance to host her own TLC television special.

4. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art seeks guides for the Art and Design Show House from May 7 through 22. Guides will receive a free ticket to the Show House tour as well as a free pass to the museum's Martinis and Music event in August.

5. Today is National Play Your Ukelele Day. Here's how much fun you can have with the ukelele.
