Citizens Get Hands-On Training by Marietta Police

Graduates learned about every aspect of the Marietta Police Department including training, SWAT, homicide investigation, traffic stops and traffic enforcement.

Nineteen people learned about the Marietta Police Department's operations, participated in hands-on training given by department's officers and learned about challenges police officers face on streets through role-playing scenarios and ride-alongs.

The Marietta Citizens Police Academy is a free 10-week course held twice a year. It is designed to familiarize residents and business owners with city policing.

"If you have ever wanted to learn everything about the police department, it is a really cool thing to do, and I had fun every single Monday night," Graduate Ed Bentley said in a press release.

Mayor Steve Tumlin, Police Chief Dan Flynn, lieutenant Grant Foster and officer Don Smith recognized graduates of the most recent Citizens Police Academy on June 12.

"The program is for citizens of Marietta who want to learn more about their police department, what we do, and the issues and challenges our officers face in keeping our community safe," Flynn said in a press release.

Graduates learned about every aspect of the police department including training, SWAT, homicide investigation, traffic stops, traffic enforcement and all the things Marietta Police officers do, Flynn said.

"These folks got behind the wheel of a police car, and turned on the blue lights and the siren to stop some role players who are real police officers who acted out some of the things they've seen in traffic stops that they've made."
