Cobb Public Safety Joins Nixle Network

Marietta and Cobb residents can join Nixle to get immediate alerts about public safety issues, and that tops The 5 Things today.

1. The recently joined the Web-based Nixle network and can now deliver real-time emergency notifications to residents via text and e-mail. The Marietta Police Department already uses the service.

Notifications may include information about armed or dangerous persons in the area, missing person alerts, significant traffic news and other critical incidents that require real-time notification.

To sign up for Nixle alerts, citizens can go to www.Nixle.com and register with the e-mail address and cell phone where they would like to receive messages.

2. Marietta City Schools recently named Kristina Nesbitt, an English teacher at as its Employee of the Month. Nesbitt has taught in Marietta schools for 10 years and serves as a Beta Club sponsor and organizes such fund drives at school as Valentine’s Day Fundraiser, Teacher Appreciation Breakfast, Cobb Christmas and March of Dimes. She was also part of the Marietta Middle team that won a Creating Community Award from the Cobb Community Relations Council. Nesbitt along with Christie Sippola and Belva Kohler sponsor the Marietta Middle Intellectual Diversity Club.

3. In its first-ever competitive meet, Chattahoochee Technical College's  cheerleading squad took second place in the Level 6 division at the Spirit Unlimited Competition. The meet held on March 12 at the Georgia State University Sports Arena featured other age-17-and-older all-star teams from around Georgia in Level 6, the top age group at the event. More than 35 teams from around the state competed.

4. The Cobb Bridal Alliance and the Cobb County Convention and Visitors Bureau today is holding the from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Taylor-Brawner Hall in Smyrna. More than 40 vendors will feature everything from bridal attire to venues, food to photography and so much more.
