3. The Cobb County Cooperative Extension, along with the University of Georgia, is sponsoring the eight-week Walk Georgia fitness program. The free program encourages individuals and teams of four to log their exercise routines at walkgeorgia.org, a site that translates such activities as aerobics classes, walking the dog and pick-up basketball games into "miles."

An online map enables participants to chart their "walks" across Georgia and learn about interesting facts about the counties they visit.

Online registration will be open from Feb. 20 to March 9, and logs will be active from March 6 to April 30. For information, visit walkgeorgia.org or call Cobb Extension at 770-528-4090.

4. The Cobb Public Library plans to start offering a greater selection of downloadable e-books starting March 1. Patrons can access both audio and downloadable books with their library cards through the library Web page at cobbcounty.org/library. Fiction and nonfiction selections are available. Call 770-528-2320 for details.

5. Today is National PTA Founders Day. Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Hearst called the first meeting of the National Congress of Mothers on Feb. 17, 1897, and were shocked when more than 2,000 men and women arrived. For those who keep score on Marietta history will remember that Birney is a native and has an named in her honor.
