Dobbins Helps Douglasville Remember

Heritage Baptist Church held a special service to mark Memorial Day.

An honor guard detail from the 94th Air Lift Wing of Dobbins Air Reserve Base helped honor fallen military heroes at a special celebration of worship Sunday. The Dobbins unit presented the colors during the worship service, then performed a 21-gun salute and "Taps" on the church's front lawn.

The Rev. Gene Fields paid tribute to troops during his worship service while a slide show was presented, featuring veterans related to members of the congregation. There was also a choral tribute, with the choir singing "America the Beautiful," "My Country Tis of Thee" and "Heaven's Greatest Soldier."

After "Taps," the church raised a flag that flew over the Army Life Support Area, Ali Al Salem Air Base (ALSA), Kuwait, on Jan. 11, 2008. It was flown in the church's honor and was presented to Heritage Baptist on March 19, 2008, on behalf of the men and women of the U.S. armed forces serving at ALSA during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
