Dream Weavers Perform at Strand for Foster Children

A special concert benefit for foster children in Georgia and featuring singer/songwriter Mandy Gawley tops The 5 Things today.

1. Dream Weavers of  Georgia hosts ‎"It Takes a Village" concert benefit for foster children featuring singer/songwriter Mandy Gawley at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre at 8 p.m.
Dream Weavers' mission is to make a difference in the lives of foster children by creating opportunities and providing resources, enabling them to become all they can be. Tickets are $35. Call the theater at 770-293-0080 for information.

2. The Marietta Business Association will hold its monthly luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Mansour Center at 995 Roswell St., providing an informal networking program where everyone can introduce themselves and their business to the group.

Door prizes will be awarded, and a 50/50 Joker's Wild raffle will be held to benefit a local charity. Full and quarterly members can attend for free, reduced-fee members pay $15, and guests and non-members pay $20. For information, call 678-596-3578.

3. Ghosts of Marietta will hold its "Scary-etta" tour at 8 p.m. today. The 90-minute tour starts at the Historic Marietta Trolley Co. where you board a trolley for a fully-narrated ride around Marietta. Stops include the Kennesaw House; the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, site of the haunted Mary Meinert statue; and Marietta City Cemetery, where Marietta's most famous ghost, the "Lady in Black," lurks. Tickets are $25 plus tax for adults with special pricing available for groups of 10 or more. Seating is limited, and pre-paid advance reservations are required. Call 678-290-9193 for information.

4. The Federal Emergency Management Agency this week awarded the city of Marietta a grant to buy equipment that will help firefighters breathe better when battling a fire. The $285,000 grant will be used to buy 68 new breathing apparatus to replace 12-year-old equipment. The grant to the Marietta Fire Department is part of the Assistance to Firefighters grant program.
