Fountain Returns to Glover Park

Crews will reinstall the centerpiece of Marietta Square this morning, and early SPLOST voting ends this afternoon. These events top The 5 Things today.

1. Fans of the Glover Park fountain can rejoice! Crews from Marietta and Robinson Iron of Alexander City, Ala., will be reinstalling the fountain at 11 a.m. today.

The fountain was removed Feb. 22 after the city discovered it had rusted from the inside, making the water turn brown. The original forger of the fountain, Robinson Iron dismantled the structure so that it could be completely refurbished.

A fountain has stood at the park since the 1890s, and the current fountain has stood there since 1985. The latest fountain project cost about $7,500.

5. Today is Johnny Appleseed Day, a day that honors an actual person whose story grew into a legend. John Chapman was an American settler who planted apple trees as he moved west. He supposedly died on this day in 1845 during a winter plague. There's a second day in his honor Sept. 26 to mark his birth.
