It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Marietta Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Marietta happenings for the weekend:

1. Marietta's own Johnnie Gabriel will put the finishing touches on the Art & Design Show House with a champagne toast and cooking demonstration from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The event with Gabriel, owner of and cooking cousin of Paula Deen, will benefit the .

The Encore Champagne Celebration will be hosted at the Lawrence House Art & Jewelry Gallery, a historic home located adjacent to the Show House, 21 Whitlock Drive. Seats are limited. Tickets are $40 and can be purchased at www.ArtAndDesignShowHouse.com. For information, call 770-528-1444 x18.

2. When it's Friday in Marietta during the late spring and summer, it means Brew with a View at the .Β  This week brings the Brothers of the Ridge, who are Chris Barber and Brian Rosen, members of the band Acorn Ridge. This duo act is a grassroots version of the rock/blues band that has been on the Atlanta scene for the past three years.

Brew with a View runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the theater's rooftop terrace bar. Beer, wine and mixed drinks are available for those 21 years and older. There is no cover charge.

Also at the Strand that evening is a showing of The Princess Bride, a clever modern fairy tale about Wesley and the Princess Buttercup, at 8 p.m. Live organ pops variety show and sing-along featuring The Strand’s Mighty Allen Theatre Organ at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for children, students, and seniors.

3. 's Running Eagles rugby squad takes on San Francisco Golden Gate for the 2011 U.S. Rugby Super League Championship at 2 p.m. Saturday. The last match-up between the two teams was for a semi-finals game in which San Francisco won. Life has homefield advantage this year.

4. For a kinder and gentler sport, consider joining or watching the Marietta Grand Prix Tennis Series #8 at from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

This is the eighth tournament in a series of 12 throughout the year, culminating in September with the annual City of Marietta Tennis Championships. It is a one-day tennis tournament with each player completing three abbreviated matches.

5. The Marietta Tree Keepers are holding a "Trees Please" event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in Glover Park. The event features a variety of mini-workshops in which local experts explain the correct pruning methods for trees, tree selection and planting and year-round watering options.
