Get Ready for More Hot Weather, Marietta

1.  It’s going to be hot and sunny all week long with temperatures hitting the mid-90s every day. Welcome to the summertime weather.

2. Nevermind the heat, don’t forget the Sunday edition of the Marietta Square Farmer’s Market from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.  The vendors will be peddling the freshest fruits, vegetables and flowers on Mill Street between the railroad tracks and the northwest corner of the Square.

3. The City of Marietta has been featuring various boards and committees on the official Marietta Web site recently. This week, the city's Ethics Committee is in the spotlight. The committee is comprised of three volunteers who help ensure the city's elected officials maintain an effective code of ethical behavior and determine whether there is clear and convincing evidence that an elected official has violated Marietta's ethics code.

One member is appointed by the mayor; as second by the city council and the third by both, subject to approval by majority of council. This third member must be a member of good standing of State Bar of Georgia.

The current board includes: Warren Herron, chairman; the Rev. James O. Speed Jr.; and Jerry L. Gentry.

5. Today is Apple II Day, in honor of the 1977 launch date of one of the first successful mass-produced microcomputers. Believe it or not, this computer was an 8-bit home computer … quite a big difference from the mega- and gigi- and terabyte computers available today.
