Gone with Wind Museum Set to Mark Novel Anniversary

Two-day festival celebrates 75th anniversary of Margaret Mitchell's novel in high fashion with celebrity visits, Scarlett look-alike contest and more .

When it comes to celebrating anything related to Gone with the Wind or Margaret Mitchell, nothing compares to the festivals and events prepared by the .

And so it will be this weekend, when the museum, aka “Scarlett on the Square,” hosts a two-day celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of Mitchell’s iconic Southern novel. The event, “A Tribute to Margaret Mitchell: The Book that Touched the World,” includes surviving cast members from the 1939 movie, fan tributes, autograph sessions and even a Scarlett Look-Alike contest.

The celebration’s first event is a Breakfast with the Stars at the from 9:30 to 11 a.m. For a $35 ticket, fans enjoy a breakfast buffet with such stars as Ann Rutherford, Mickey Kuhn, Patrick Curtis, Geneva Miller Roberts, Morgan Brittany, Karolyn Grimes, Anne Edwards, Marianne Walker, John Wiley, Susan Lindsley, and Joseph Yakovetic.

Immediately following the breakfast will be the Scarlett Look-Alike contest judged by Morgan Brittany, who played Vivien Leigh in the biopic Gable and Lombard. Here’s a chance for all Scarlett wannabes to show off their favorite Walter Plunkett knockoffs.

Friday also includes a “Here’s Looking at You, Kid” panel with former child stars Morgan Brittany, Karolyn Grimes, Patrick Curtis and Mickey Kuhn and a dinner and interview with Anne Edwards, biographer of Margaret Mitchell.

Saturday events kick off with an autograph session at the museum at 10 a.m., followed by a swap meet in the museum courtyard at 12:30 p.m. From 3 to 5 p.m. at the ballroom of the, authors Anne Edwards, Marianne Walker, John Wiley and Susan Lindsley will discuss how Mitchell’s novel influenced them.

The celebration concludes with “The Golden Age of Hollywood with Ann Rutherford” from 8 to 10 p.m. in the auditorium. The event, which costs $35, will feature Rutherford discussing her career, her experience in the Gone with the Wind movie and life during Hollywood’s Golden Age. Museum director Connie Sutherland and exhibit owner Chris Sullivan will lead the discussion.
