Gotta Take a Walk on the Arts Side!

What else but the First Friday Arts Walk could top The 5 Things for today?

1. If you thought the first three years were something, then the fourth year of the First Friday Art Walk is really going to blow your paintbrushs off. Once again, the merchants of Historic Marietta Square have turned over their shops, restaurants and boutiques over to city's artists. Held the first Friday of the month (and that does mean today), the Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour in which stores, restaurants, art galleries, museums and boutiques feature artists and musicians.

The walk runs from 5 to 9 p.m., and maps are available at participating merchants, the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau or online at www.artwalkmarietta.com.

This year's Art Walk also features the Artists Alley at , in which student artists participate in a juried exhibit across numerous styles. For information, call 770-429-1115.

5. As a writer and editor, Marietta Patch has to love the "holiday" of today: National Grammar Day. Here are some of our favorite grammatical issues: Misuse of apostrophes, the casual interchanging of they're/their/there, the debate over the serial comma (Vampire Weekend has a whole song about this issue), the glory of the semicolon, the evolving history of double-spacing after the period (thanks texting!) and the Associated Press stylebook.
