4. The public is invited to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks by carrying or buying a flag and attending a city memorial service Sept. 10. In September 2003, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta honored the victims of the terrorist attacks through the Field of Flags Tribute Project at Kennesaw National Battlefield Park. Some 3,000 volunteers are needed; you can sign up online.

5. Today is Take Your Houseplants for a Walk Day. You’ve heard of taking your pets for a walk, right? Well, today’s the day to take your plants for a walk. This holiday is supposed to help your greenery have a better sense of its environment. Maybe just sitting them outside awhile will suffice.
