Marietta Park Dedicated to Former Mayor

The public is invited to join the city of Marietta for the dedication of Joe Mack Wilson Park, 190 Roswell St., May 23 at 3 p.m.

The park, at the corner of Anderson and Roswell streets, honors former Marietta mayor Joe Mack Wilson.

"Joe Mack had a passion for Marietta and loved the beauty of this city," mayor Steve Tumlin said. "He loved Kiwanis Club, and served our city as a legislator, businessman, husband, father, and also as mayor of Marietta," he said. "When Joe Mack was mayor, he still had contacts with the Georgia Legislature that made the city of Marietta even better. Still today, years later, we see evidence of his handiwork and contributions as a legislator, leader and as Mayor in many ways in both our city and our state."

"This is part of a project throughout Marietta to green up the entryways into the city, and create better public spaces and new parks," city manager Bill Bruton said. "The new Joe Mack pocket park now stands out as a beautiful front door to the Square. Where we formally had an unwelcoming plain flat lot with little more than dirt and grass, we now have a visually appealing park and transit stop, which reflects the attractiveness of our historic downtown."

Encouraging revitalization of Marietta's current parks and establishing new parks for active and passive use are goals City Council established as part of Marietta's vision statement.
