Local Chefs Gather to Help SafePath

Upcoming culinary benefit to help victims of child abuse tops The 5 Things for today.

1. SafePath Children's Advocacy Center is hosting its Chef's Culinary Tour benefit on Thursday and features local celebrity chefs. The event will be held at the Pavilion in East Cobb, and tickets are $75 per person. They can be purchased by contacting Kellen Cooper at 770-514-6554 or kellencooper.safepath@cobbcounty.org.

Proceeds from the event will help SafePath provide services for children who are victims of abuse.

2. Marietta has taken another step to make the summer cooler this year as it has just finished work on a massive shade structure over the playground at Whitaker Park. Check out details and a cool photo here. Future improvements at the part include trail lighting for night walks.  The improvements come from the $25 million parks bond voters approved in 2009.

4. For your civic duty enjoyment, consider attending the county  Planning Commission zoning hearing at 9 a.m. in the commissioner boardroom at . or the monthly Keep Cobb Beautiful board meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the lab.
