Marietta Hosts Daddy-Daughter Dance Tonight

One of the city's most popular family and social events of the year tops The 5 Things today.

1. Marietta's annual Daddy-Daughter Dance remains one of the most anticipated events of any year. This year's dance will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. today at the Mansour Center, 995 Roswell St. For information, call Marietta's Parks and Recreation Department at 770-794-5601. 

2. Not quite in Marietta city limits, but since this is the biggest film festival in the metro Atlanta, it's worth mentioning here. The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, hosted by at 1301 Johnson Ferry Road. More than 20,000 film lovers are expected through the week to see more than 60 features, shorts and documentaries. Today's films include:

  • 11:20 a.m. 100 Voices: A Journey Home
  • 2:05 p.m. The Human Resources Manager
  • 4:35 p.m. The Trotsky
  • 7:30 p.m. The Matchmaker

3. Keep Cobb Beautiful this week reported final figures for its annual "Bring One for the Chipper," a program to recycle Christmas trees after the season. The final tallies: 49,550 trees mulched, 200 trees picked up for fish habitats, 247 volunteers and 1,799 volunteer hours worked.

4. Cobb Challengers Gymnastics will hold its first major meet of the year all day today at the Cobb Gymnastics Center, 542 Fairground St. The meet features the Cobb Men's Challenge. Call 770-528-8477 for information.
