Marietta Marks Valentine's Day with Style, Ghosts

Marietta merchants decking their walls with valentines and other signs of love and a Valentine's-oriented ghost tour top The 5 Things today.

1. Let's hope the top item of The 5 Things today isn't the thing that jogged your memory of Valentine's Day, but, yeah, it is that day again. No worries though.  Marietta merchants, particularly those downtown, have done a job in preparing for the day. Just check here for evidence.

2. Perfect for the day is a Valentine's Day "Scary-etta" tour from Ghosts of Marietta. This 90-minute trolley tour, which begins at 8 p.m., takes a "spirited" ride around Historic Downtown Marietta and into some of the town's most haunted cemeteries. The tour is  $25 (plus tax) for adults and $12 (plus tax) for children 12 and under. Space is limited, and reservations must be made in advance. Call 770-425-1006 for information or reservations.

3. The Cobb County Public Library System is hosting an African-American Film Series throughout February, including today's showing of Proud at 6:30 p.m. in the Gail E. Rogers Multipurpose Room at the Central Library. The movie, based on a true story, tells of the USS Mason entering World War II on a doomed mission. The all-African-American crew overcomes the harsh realities of war abroad and of segregation at home. The crew was finally honored for its heroism in 1994.
