Marietta on Spring Break

You probably don't need The 5 Things to remind you, but Spring Break for Marietta and Cobb students started today. Be careful out there!

1. Perhaps you are among those Mariettans who are so well organized and put-together that you have the full week of Spring Break figured out. You have the kids engaged all week and all events and schedules squared away.

For those who don't fit into that category (and you can probably count Marietta Patch among them), please allow us to remind you that we have a number of articles and resources to help you plan better. There's our events calender, of course. But also check out our feature and last week's columns for ideas. Any others? Let us know in the comments section below.

2. Cobb County officials this week plan to submit applications so the county can become IMAGE certified, which means the county adheres to strict federal standards in regards to its hiring process. County commissioners approved the move earlier this month to become part of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement program, also known as IMAGE.

The program would require the county to enroll in E-Verify and the Social Security Number Verification Service, follow IMAGE's best hiring practices and undergo an I-9 audit conducted by IMAGE. The program is designed to ensure that all employees working with the county are legally eligible to do so.
