Marietta Police Urge Caution After Rash of Robberies

Police recommendations following recent automobile break-ins top The 5 Things today.

1. have urged residents to take preventive measures against automobile-related thefts after a recent rash of robberies near Powder Springs Road and Oregon Trail.

Specifically, police reminds citizens to be aware of their surroundings, close windows, lock vehicle doors, secure garage doors and windows and refrain from leaving valuables and remote door openers in clear view in their vehicles. Police also suggested using outdoor lighting near garage as a deterrent.

Such recommedations come as the department investigates a serious of auto break-ins that occurred during the night time hours on Monday and the early morning hours of Tuesday. About a dozen vehicles were broken into, and items were stolen in nearly every case.

2. The city of Marietta has added some renovations to the dog area at Lewis Park designed to make the park more comfortable for owners and canines alike. The $33,000 in renovations include three 16 x 16 fabric shade structures and improve drainage. The money comes from the city's $25 million parks bond approved by Marietta voters in 2009.
