Marietta Road Work Updates, April 29-May 3

Check out the latest updates on road constructions, delays and detours around Marietta and Cobb County before you start the week.

Here are the latest updates on road work being done around Marietta and Cobb County, according to the Cobb Department of Transportation.

Lower Roswell Road Construction

Davidson Road to Willow Point Parkway

Expect delays and lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with one lane open for your commute. The contractor will be grading and placing concrete, and work on asphalt paving between Hyde Road and Asheforde Drive.

Willow Point Pkwy to Timber Ridge Road

One lane will remain open for commute from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The contractor will be grading, installing storm drainage crossings and placing concrete.

Paper Mill Road at Sope Creek

Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. One lane will remain open for your commute during the initial utility work.

Starting in May, Cobb DOT will start replacing the bridge over Sope Creek on Paper Mill Road. The new bridge will include a six-foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to the National Park Service trails. Paper Mill Road will be closed at the bridge for approximately four months. Signed detour routes will be provided during construction.

I-285 Top-End Resurfacing

Expect delays as Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. The project is scheduled to complete in August.

Floyd Road Construction

  • Clay Road to Hicks Road: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with one lane remaining open.
  • Temporary sidewalks are in place as new sidewalks are constructed along the east side of Floyd Road. Additional traffic barrels and directional signage will assist pedestrians needing access to CCT bus stops on the west side of Floyd.

Karls Gate Drive to Lake Fjord Pass

Expect intermittent lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open.

County Services Parkway Sidewalks

Expect periodic lane closures with one lane remaining open in both directions between Austell Road to Powder Springs Road.

Shiloh Road/Shallowford Road Construction

  • Wade Green Road to Canton Road: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open.
  • Shallowford Road to Rocky Mountain Road: Expect lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday with one lane remaining open at all times.

I-575 at Barrett Parkway

Georgia DOT continues work on the intersection and ramps at I-575 and Barrett Parkway. This project is scheduled to complete in June 2013.

Skip Spann Connector (Busbee-Frey Connector) 

The proposed project is a new bridge over I-75 that connects Frey Road to Busbee Drive just north of Chastain Road. A roundabout is proposed at the intersection of the Skip Spann Connector and Busbee Drive.

Barrett Parkway Construction

  • Northbound/Burnt Hickory Road to Cobb Parkway (US 41): Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open at all times.
  • Southbound/Cobb Place to Burnt Hickory Road: Expect periodic lane closures from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday through Friday with one lane open.

Jiles Road Construction

  • Cobb Pkwy to CSX Railroad Bridge: Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one lane remaining open.

Casteel Road Sidewalks Construction

Expect periodic lane closures from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. between Ballard Drive to Dallas Highway (SR 120).

Holly Mill Run

The contractor will continue clearing operations and installation of erosion control.

Post Oak Tritt at Holly Springs

The contractor will be working on the pedestrian signals and placing the final crosswalk striping for the newly installed handicap ramps.

New Chastain Road Bridge Replacement

In May, Cobb County DOT is scheduled to begin work replacing the westbound bridge on New Chastain Road over Noonday Creek. This will result in closing the westbound lanes for four months or longer. Westbound traffic will be detoured to the eastbound bridge, which will provide one lane in each direction during construction.
