Marietta Square Farmers Market Returns

1. A certain excitement builds in Marietta until the final vendor sets up (no later than 9 a.m.!) for the Marietta Square Farmers Market. Located on the north side between and the, the market this year will feature more than 60 vendors selling everything from fruits and vegetables to organic pet foods to jams and jellies to fresh-squeeze lemonade.

The market ends at noon today but will resume each Saturday morning until November.

2. The bathtub races are back! started the tradition back in 1966, but it went on hiatus 20 years ago for safety concern. Time trials begin at 10 a.m. on campus among nine teams of current students with the final races to begin at noon.

The starting line will be on North Hornet Drive in front of the volleyball courts, and the course ends at the intersection with Polytechnic Lane. For information, contact Ron Lunk at rlunk@spsu.edu.

3. For bluegrass fans and non-fans alike, the brilliant banjo picker Earl Scruggs should give a mighty fine show tonight. Scruggs may be most famous for creating the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies, but his "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is essential music. Scruggs performs at 8 p.m. Saturday at the .
