Marietta's Center for Family Resources Goes to the Oscars

Academy Award-sanctioned benefit at Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre tops The 5 Things today.

1. Get ready for the Oscars tonight as Atlanta rolls out the red carpet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in celebration of the Academy Awards. At Atlanta's only Oscar-sanctioned viewing party, guests and ticket holders can view the awards celebration in a theater setting.

The event benefits the Marietta-based Center for Family Resources, which has assisted low-income families with employment, education and housing resources for more than 50 years.

2. The will perform "An Evening of Dance: Tribute to African-American Dance & Culture" at 4 p.m. today at , 545 Kenneth E. Marcus Way. The academy's dance ensemble will perform some of its signature dances to "Down by the Riverside,"  "Sinnerman," "Passages" and more. The event is free. 4. Registration for the spring session of gymnastics at the begins today at 2 p.m. for Cobb residents and Monday for non-residents. Class schedules, registration details and other information are available at the center's Web site.
