Martinis and Music Return to Museum of Art

What a better way to get a jump on the long Valentine's Day weekend than fancy booze and guitar music?

1. The Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art offers "Martini & Music" from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today, featuring guitarist Myles Brown. Admission is free for members of the museum and $8 for all other guests. Admission includes access to all exhibitions, the music, hors d'oeurves and a cash bar.

2. Marietta High School faces off against Wheeler High School tonight in a series of basketball games. The freshman and junior varsity squads hold home court advantage with games starting at 4:30 p.m. The varsity squads take the road and will play at Wheeler at 375 Holt Road with games starting at 7:30 p.m. Go Blue Devils!

3. For more sports, the Marietta High School wrestling squad competes in the sectional tournament starting tonight. The competition will be held at Kennesaw Mountain High School, 1898 Kennesaw Due West Road. May we have a second "Go Blue Devils?"

4. Marietta Downtown Merchants will hold a regular meeting from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the Ladies Healing Boutique at 19 Powder Springs St.

5. For today's "official" day, consider "White Shirt Day." This day was first celebrated on Feb. 11, 1948, to honor the men and women of United Auto Workers who participated in the 1937 Sitdown Strike. The white shirt signifies how "blue collar" workers should be treated with the same respect as those in management.
