Music, Festivals, Markets and Rodeos Make for Great Reasons to 'Get Out'

It's Thursday, the weekend is around the corner, and you have no idea what to do. At Marietta Patch, we have compiled the best bets for a great weekend.

Essential Marietta-area happenings for the weekend:

1. Juneteenth celebrations. For the eighth year running, the Cobb NAACP is participating in the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States with a free Friday night concert and a Saturday festival.

“The Night under the Stars” features jazz, rhythm and blues, spoken word performances and more from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at Glover Park. On Saturday, the celebration includes music, food and more from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the park. All events are free.

2. Spend Father's Day with music in the park.  From 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, becomes center stage for fathers all over Cobb County for an all-day rock music festival featuring the best in East Cobb's music scene with live bands. For this free Father's Day Music Fest, bring the whole family, your friends, your lawn chairs and blankets, lunch and dinner, frisbees and whatever helps your groove.

Full Net takes the stage from 1:30 to 3 p.m., followed by Jango Monkey from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Suburban Angst closes the music part of the fest from 6 to 8 p.m.

3. Enjoy a market and music. The East Cobb Market, sponsored by , provides both great shopping and live music from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The community event is free and open to all and is located at Friends & Family Chiropractic across from Sprayberry High School at the “yellow house.”

The lineup includes Richard "Coop" Coope at 10 a.m.; Madison Shea at 10:45 a.m.; Owl Creek Band with Kelly Becker at 11:30 a.m.; Milyssa Rose at 12:15 p.m.; Still Friends at 1 p.m.; Marc Lawson at 1:45 p.m.; Jeannie Caryn at 2:30 p.m.; and Robin Roberts at 3:15 p.m.

4. Go to the Rodeo. Johnny Woodward and Larry Haney continue a 14-year tradition of promoting an action-packed rodeo for Cobb County. The Cobb Classic Rodeo returns to at 8 p.m. for both Friday and Saturday, rain or shine. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children with some of the proceeds to benefit the Cobb County Sheriff Mounted Patrol Unit. Children under 5 get in free. Events include bareback riding, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie down roping, team roping and barrel racing, as well as trick riders and the rodeo clowns. For information, call 770-684-7277.

5 . Take in a Play. The Mountain View Arts Alliance's Cabaret Camp continues its Summer Stars Concert Series with a performance of The Drowsy Chaperone at 7:30 p.m. Friday or Saturday at the .
