Ready for Some Semi-Pro Football Tryouts?

The Atlanta Falcons passed on you (and so did your middle school team), but your chance to try out for a semi-pro squad tops The 5 Things today.

1. The Marietta Hitmen are entering their third season of semi-professional football, and they are looking for a few good players. Young men ages 18 and up can try out and possibly create a stepping stone to collegiate, arena or professional football.  The tryouts are at 2 p.m. at . 2. offers its first preview tonight of "Red, White & Tuna," the third installment of its "Tuna" trilogy. The colorful inhabitants of Tuna return for a 4th of July Tuna Class Reunion. The preview plays at 7 p.m. and costs $14 per ticket. The play is for 16 and over because of some "colorful cussin'."

3. Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, 4385 Lower Roswell Road, is holding a "We Will Never Forget" patriotic concert in its sanctuary at 6 p.m. today. The program includes a full orchestra, choral groups, spoken-word performances and special guests who pay tribute to the veterans and first responders. Program followed by ice cream social.

4. United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta recently completed its annual Shoebox Project in which people donate toiletry items for homeless in decorated shoeboxes. Folks in Cobb County donated more than 3,100 shoeboxes to the cause, part of the overall 17,200 shoeboxes collected this year.

5. Today is the Indianapolis 500. Yeah, it's a major holiday for many fans.
