State Opens New License Plate Design to Public Vote

Georgians opportunity through July 8 to weigh in on eight designs for car tags tops The 5 Things today.

1. In case the old peach design of the Georgia license plate has soured on you, a new design is in the works. Even better, you can have input on what it will look like!

As part of the new design effort, the state received more than 500 design entries from the public. A panel of Georgia college and university art professors then winnowed the designs to eight finalists.

Online voting can be accessed here and state officials are encouraging all Georgians to vote for the design that best represents the state.

Online voting continues until July 8, when the three plates that received the most votes will be presented to Gov. Nathan Deal. The winning plate is expected to be announced by the governor on July 15.

4. The Cobb Chamber of Commerce has begun touting its first annual Business-After Hours J.A.M. (Joint Association Meeting) as the social event of the summer. Chamber officials this week reached out to the 12 business associations across the county to serve as co-hosts.

The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. July 7 at the It serves as the first event collaboration of the Cobb Chamber and the Coalition of Cobb County Business Associations.
