Strand Behind-the-Scenes Tour Now on Thursdays

Strand resumes backstage tours for summer. The fact they have moved them from Fridays to Thursdays top The 5 Things.

1. For folks interested in getting a behind-the-curtain look the renovations of the , the weekly tours have resumed for the summer with a few changes. The tours are now offered at 11 a.m. on Thursdays and cost $5 per person.

These guided tours take visitors back through the decades to the theater's heydays and then a return to the future to the recent renovation efforts and current operations. Call the box office at 770-293-0080 for information or for groups of more than 20.

2. Happy anniversary to , which this month celebrates 33 years of operation at the northwest corner of Marietta Square. What's your favorite dish? For Marietta Patch, it's the pork chops upstairs and the chicken gumbo and the crab cakes downstairs.

3. The Marietta Museum of History this week posted a fascinating bit of history on its Facebook page. Check it out:

"If you were planning a summer vacation in the late 1840s or early 1850s you might consider coming to Marietta. At the time we had 2 hotels, The Howard House was at the corner of North Park Square and Church Street, the Marietta Hotel was at the corner of South Park Square and Atlanta Street."

4. Don't forget that SafePath Children's Advocacy Center is hosting its Chef's Culinary Tour benefit today at the Pavilion in East Cobb. Tickets are $75 per person. Call 770-514-6554 for information. Proceeds from the event will help SafePath provide services for children who are victims of abuse.

5. Today is Donald Duck Day, although it likely isn't a celebration of his "birthday." It does, however, mark this day in 1934 when he he debuted in the Silly Symphony cartoon "The Wise Little Hen."
