Theatre in the Square Debuts '39 Steps'

A good evening along the Marietta Square tops the list of the 5 Things for today.

1. Marietta's acclaimed Theatre in the Square debuts "39 Steps" at 8 p.m. tonight. Adapted from John Buchan’s 1915 book and Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 film, this incredibly fast-paced spy yarn has four characters playing multiple roles backed up by some tremendously clever staging, lighting and special effects. Tickets range from $17 to $33. For information, call 770-422-8369 or visit www.theatreinthesquare.com.

2. A great opening act for "39 Steps" is to attend one of the regular wine tastings at Marietta Wine Market around the corner from the theater at 18 Powder Springs St. The latest tasting, which costs $10 per person and runs from 5 to 7 p.m. features wine and cheese pairings. Call 770-919-1574 or visit www.mariettawinemarket.com/index.htm for information.

3. If the theater is not part of your agenda for the evening, you can consider one of Ghosts of Marietta's current themed ghost tours, Spirits and Spirits Tour. The tour begins at 7 p.m. and conveniently starts at the Marietta Wine Market and includes one glass of wine while you listen to some of the area's ghost stories. The tour continues into the Square for a one-hour walking ghost tour. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children. Reservations are suggested. For information, call 678-290-9193 or visit www.ghostsofmarietta.com.
