Live Musical Theater Production at SPSU

Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) will host a production of “Los Valientes (The Courageous Ones),” on Thurs., Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in the Joe Mack Wilson Student Center Theater that is free and open to the public.

Accompanied by a chamber music ensemble, actor Kevin Melendez will explore the artistic and political passions of Mexican artist Diego Rivera, the unwavering commitment to human rights of martyred Salvadoran Archbishop Oscar Romero and Mexican American desperado Joaquin Murrieta’s pursuit of social justice (known as the Mexican Robin Hood, some say “Zorro” was based on him). The music ranges from traditional Latino folk and popular songs sung in Spanish to instrumental works by Latin American composers.

This production is the work of The Core Ensemble and is part of Hispanic Heritage Month at SPSU, sponsored by the university’s Social and International Studies Department and the Cross-Cultural Communications Committee.
