Marietta will participate in the federally-funded United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and state-operated Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) 2013 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) for Cobb County.

About Summer Food Service Program

  • Replaces National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs during summer vacation period so less fortunate children will be able to eat
  • Free meals will be provided to eligible children in needy neighborhoods across nation without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, age or handicap

"The USDA and state of Georgia define 'open sites' based on their proximity to eligible schools, or schools in which more than 50.1 percent of children receive free and reduced meals," Division of Housing and Community Development manager Mitch Bland said. "Therefore any child going to this site is presumed eligible if the state determines its eligibility as an open site," he said. "The program ensures that children living in a neighborhood adjacent to a church, school or membership youth club serving Summer Food meals that they are eligible to attend just the meal service. All sites have this invitation to participate posted on their front doors."
