How To Pick Safe Halloween Costumes for Your Kids

Consider these tips to choose a safe costume this Halloween.

If you're one of the 158 million Americans expected to celebrate Halloween this year, according to the National Retail Federation, consider the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office's tips on choosing safe costumes.

Avoiding long costumes that hit the ground, high heels and oversized shoes that could cause a fall; masks that obstruct vision or breathing; and accessories with sharp edges are among the suggestions, as are choosing bright colors and adding a reflective stripe and carrying a flashlight or glow stick.

NRF predicts Americans will spend $2.6 billion on Halloween costumes for adults, children and pets. Total spending on Halloween 2013, including costumes, treats and festivities, will reach $6.9 billion, it says.
