10th Annual Marietta Soap Box Derby Coming in June

Celebrating its tenth year, the Kiwanis Club of Marietta is proud to once again sponsor the upcoming Marietta Soap Box Derby scheduled for 8am, Saturday, June 14, at the Marietta High School parking lot with pre-race activities held Friday, June 13. Admission is free but there is a fee for all racers.

Initiated by former Kiwanis Club of Marietta president, Devan Seabaugh, and with All-American Soap Box Derby’s official sanction and the City of Marietta’s support, the inaugural race was held in 2004 and quickly grew into an annual tradition. Steadily gaining in popularity, youngsters aged 7 to 17 throughout North Georgia participate each year for an opportunity to compete at the national and international levels.

Participants race derby cars at speeds approaching 25 to 30 mph to earn the title of All-American Soap Box Derby Marietta Local Champion.  The winners of each division will also earn a spot to represent Cobb County and the State of Georgia in the 78th Annual All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship in Akron, Ohio this July where they will race against more than 500 local Champions from all over the world including Germany, China, Japan and Austria.
