Cat Videos Killed the Photo Industry

Cats (and all other viral phenomena) are single handedly destroying the photo industry with their cuteness!

I've been doing graphics for about 3 years and everything people say about it is true. There really isn't that much of a calling for graphic artists. The most common are for photojournalist, stock photographer, or those people on photobucket that make meme (pictures with captions). If you wanna be the kind of person to take beautiful nature pictures and have everyone wanting them hanging up on your mantle then take a ticket cause there's a lot of people that want the same thing.

The problem is simple supply and demand. Son/Daughters artwork or their own artwork, and pet pictures almost always takes the right of way in the house. Today people have much high standards (and shorter attentions spans), with all the content in media you pretty much have to make a perfect picture for it to stand out. I don't come anywhere close to being a pro at it either. There are some things you can do with these new vector and 3D images that is just amazing. Β But even after the first impression they dull out.

Video really killed graphic artist and photographers. People don't have the same quality standards with video as long as the content is good and the whole idea of moving pictures entices them to keep watching. Perfect example is cat videos on youtube. How are you supposed to counter such infinite amount of cuteness? There are millions and millions of views, and those people that post them get paid a pretty penny for advertisers to get space on their vid and grab a hold on a few million viewers. It's the new American dream to sit on your butt and make a living wage off of filming your cat.

But even with my cynical view of the cuteness apocalypse of the photo industry, I'll continue doing it. It's something I love to do, and I do get jobs here and there for such services. But it just makes me have to branch out to the video industry, and the flash industry and learn new things. Such is nature its self, adapt or perish. xD
