Taste Around the World Benefits Cancer Patients at Home

More than $700 was raised at “A Taste Around the World,” presented by Pennies With Purpose, on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Smyrna Community Center.  Proceeds will help provide financial relief to patients at the 27 Northside Hospital Cancer Institute at Georgia Cancer Specialists (GCS) locations across Georgia.  Participants enjoyed food samplings from a variety of countries including Ethiopia, Vietnam, England, Ireland, Spain, China, Mexico and others.  A silent auction also was held for themed gift baskets, donated by the GCS locations in Marietta, Austell, Douglasville, Hiram and Jasper.

Pennies With Purpose is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which was started by staff at the Georgia Cancer Specialists’ Marietta (Kennestone) clinic.  The organization’s mission is to raise money to help with co-pays, prescriptions, food and transportation for cancer patients who cannot afford them.

“Unfortunately, cancer can affect anyone and pays no attention to a person’s socio-economic status,” said Robin Thomas, CPhT, infusion assistant, Georgia Cancer Specialists, and Pennies with Purpose founder.  “I am so proud of the participation by my colleagues and the many volunteers who help Pennies With Purpose continue to provide financial relief for our cancer patients.”

For more information about Pennies With Purpose and future fundraising events, or to make a secure online donation, visit the “Pennies with Purpose Non-Profit Organization” Facebook page or www.pennieswithpurpose.org.  All gifts are tax deductible.
