Coast Guard Vet Bill Cooper Dies

The family will hold visitation Sunday afternoon and a private funeral Monday.

William “Bill” Gene Cooper, age 80, of Mableton died Friday, March 2, 2012, at in Austell.

He was a devoted member of in Marietta and enjoyed spending time with his church family.

Mr. Cooper was born to Lunie S. Cooper and Mary Mayo Cooper on April 24, 1931, in Tampa, FL.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was honorably discharged Dec. 27, 1954.

A graduate of Southern Technical Institute, now , he worked as an engineer for IBM.

His talents included carpentry, and the many practical pieces he produced included a beautiful cherry wood table. He also was an accomplished Web master and built the website for his wife’s artwork.

Mr. Cooper often talked about his grandchildren over his morning cup of coffee. He was the ancestry sleuth of the family. And he and his wife took care of rescued animals.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jacqueline “Jackie” Dewberry Cooper; a son, Dr. J. Michael Cooper, and his wife, Cindy; a daughter, Melody Cooper McKenna; grandchildren Nick Elzey, Shannon McKenna, Mary McKenna, Ryan McKenna and Meggi McKenna; step-grandchildren Stephanie Riley and Christie Groves; and step-great-grandchildren Jackson Groves and Colston Groves.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 4, from 2 to 5 p.m. at in Mableton.

A private service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Buckner officiating. Cremation will follow.

This is a fine example of freedom being too much to handle for some folks. The idiots who gave theRead More kid the gun should be jailed. Its obvious that a 5 year old should neither posses, nor handle a firearm period. Having said that I am a full supporter of the Second Amendment and the NRA. However we cannot measure the validity of the right to bear arms by using these idiot parents as a case study.
