2 Dead in Marietta Shootings

A likely murder-suicide is being investigated in a residential area near Scufflegrit Road.

Update, 3:25 p.m.

Marietta Police have identified the female victim as Kay Cornell Janus, 72, and the shooter as Henry Harlan Wooten, 70, of Acworth.

According to Marietta Police spokesman David Baldwin, Wooten went to Janus' home at 1510 Gateview Way this morning. Police said Janus and Wooten had been involved a long-term relationship, but the motive for the shootings is still under investigation.

Police said Wooten apparently shot Janus in the garage of her home. He was found by police dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a cul-de-sac in the 1400 block of Gateview Way.

The case is still under active investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Marietta Police Detective Michael Freer at 770-794-5477.

A Sunday morning shooting incident has left a man and a woman dead in a subdivision in the Scufflegrit Road area of East Cobb, according to news reports.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Marietta Daily Journal both quoted a Marietta Police spokesman as saying that the shootings took place before 10 a.m. Sunday on Gateview Way, and that the case is being investigated as a murder-suicide.

The newspapers reported that investigators believe the man shot the woman at their home, then walked down the street and shot himself to death.
