Charges Expected in I-75 Accident

Three right lanes of Interstate 75 South near Canton Road were temporarily closed when a Coca-Cola 18-wheeler hit a pickup truck.

Charges are expected to be filed in connection with an accident that forced authorities to temporarily close three right lanes of Interstate 75 South near Canton Road Thursday afternoon.

About 1:30 p.m, a woman in a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was driving in the left lane of the interstate, said Officer David Baldwin, the spokesman for the Marietta Police Department.

"There was a car a little bit earlier before this woman that had two kayaks strapped to the top of her car," he said. "One of the kayaks broke loose and was laying in the left lane."

The woman in the pickup truck swerved to the right to avoid the kayak.

"When she did (that)," Baldwin said, "she lost control of her car, went across all lanes of 75, ended up getting T-boned by a Coca-Cola 18-wheeler and ended up in the guardrail."

She was taken to a local hospital "with complaints of injuries, but nothing visible," he said. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

Charges, Baldwin said, "are definitely pending against the driver who lost the load of the kayak."
