The victim was struck by a car after falling off his bicycle Friday night.

Marietta Police say a man who fell off his bicycle and onto Franklin Road Friday night was killed when he was struck by a car.

The name of the victim, who was 53 years old, is being withheld pending notification of family, Marietta Public Information Officer David Baldwin said in a release.

He said the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when the victim, who was riding on a sidewalk on the northbound lanes in the 1000 block of Franklin Road, lost control of the bike and partially landed on the road.

The driver of a 1996 Honda Civic tried swerving to avoid hitting the man, but could not, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, Baldwin said.

Baldwin said the investigation is continuing and that anyone with information should contact Marietta Police Officer Nick Serkedakis at 770-794-5364.
